Jake Paul had been the massive favorite leading up to his fight with Ben Askren. For over a week he had been the massive bettors’ favorite. Now, the tides have once again turned. Over the last 48 hours, Askren has once again become the bettors’ favorite.
Over the last 48 hours, 57.8% of bets have been placed on Askren, who is now solidified as the oddsmakers’ underdog. Askren is given +160 to win the fight, or an implied 38.5% chance. Meanwhile, Paul is given -167 odds, or an implied 62.5% chance to win. Still, only 38% of bets have been placed on Paul to win the fight over the last 48 hours.
Also surprising is the rise in bets on the fight to end in a draw. Over the last 48 hours, 4.3% of bets have been placed on the fight ending in a draw. That’s an increase over the 3.5% of bets that had been placed over the prior week. Now that may not seem like a huge rise, especially considering the monumental swings this fight has seen in betting, but the draw number had been steady at around 3.5% for over a month. So, this kind of movement is certainly a major surprise this close to the fight.
Quote from OddsChecker spokesman Kyle Newman, “The fight is here, we’re just one day away. Late momentum is all against Jake Paul. Even those who don’t think Askren will win are beginning to bet on a draw. Even when looking at the total bets seen, Paul and Askren are at a virtual tie as Askren has seen 48.1% of bets compared to Paul’s 48.3%. All the wild swings this fight has taken on the market have all equaled out. Askren has all the momentum on the market, now it’s just a matter of carrying that over to the ring.”
